Ryslig's Expanded Monster Guide
Nov. 6th, 2022 01:17 amThe Expanded Guide is edited by Chiaki Nanami.
The Expanded Guide begins with a condensed & re-edited version of Spengler's Guide, written several years prior. This contains broad knowledge of the 23 monster types at the time, and largely features the information covered in Ryslig's bestiary.
The new content in the Guide consists entirely of individual monster testomonials.
Submissions to the Guide can be made by anyone at any time, in a drop-off box at the Insert Coin arcade. The form below can be used as a template for any monsters looking for inspiration or structure for their entries. Nanami copies out the entries longhand, and stores the information in several locations, so that the information is never lost.
A copy of the current manuscript may be requested for casual perusal at any time.
As of now, the Expanded Guide has not yet been officially published on the peninsula.

Date: 2022-11-17 07:37 pm (UTC)It was different. Werewolf wasn't a form I asked for, but mine was more fox than wolf, and I felt it suited me just fine. Up until then, I had only been humanoid or a snake, so having a form with paws and, occasionally, four legs was an interesting experience. Much warmer than Naga, as well. If I have to change to avoid weathering another winter as a Naga, I will likely choose this form to ride it out. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get humans to give you food for being cute.
What do you dislike about being this monster?
Shifting twice a day is uncomfortable at best and painful at worst, and I could have done without it. Having only been things without heightened senses before, the senses and instincts were overwhelming at first, and I ended up panicking and tearing a hole through my screen window trying to get out of the house. Not the best idea considering outside was far worse in terms of overwhelming, but panicking means not making sound decisions. Also, wet canine fur does not smell the greatest.
What is something unique to you about being this monster?
I'm not certain that I've seen other foxes, though I don't know many Werewolves. The ones that I know have been wolves or dogs.
What types of creatures or beings influenced your monster form?
My form looked to be based on a kitsune Noise from back in my world, right down to the markings.
What is it like to feed as this monster?
Not bad. Fairly typical, I'd say. I did find hunting a bit more fun in this form, and in comparison to Naga, my teeth were far more built for tearing and chewing, so I didn't have to swallow anything whole. Not that I could have, of course.
What are some notable physical features you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?
My ears and tail remained with me during the day, as well as a few markings and some patches of fur. At night, I was completely covered from head to toe. My face stretched out into a pseudo-muzzle, and my hands and feet developed paw pads. I couldn't wear shoes at night, either, and had to roll my pants up to the knee to accommodate the digitigrade legs. Overall, the physical changes weren't difficult to deal with. The pads on my hands at night made me have to adjust the way I held things, but otherwise it's a far more preferable form to some monster types, if you can bear the discomfort of the twice-daily transformations and the incredibly emotive ears and tail.
What are some notable psychological changes you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?
One of my fiances is a squirrel, so the urge to pounce and eat was a bit concerning. To my credit, I only actually pounced once. I must also restate that my instincts were strong, and oftentimes I would find myself acting on reflex before I had time to think about what I was doing. Loud environments were particularly overstimulating, also.
Would you become this monster again?
Yes. It wasn't an uncomfortable experience.
Would you become this monster for good?
It isn't my first choice, but I would consider it high on the list so far.
