The Expanded Guide is edited by Chiaki Nanami.

The Expanded Guide begins with a condensed & re-edited version of Spengler's Guide, written several years prior. This contains broad knowledge of the 23 monster types at the time, and largely features the information covered in Ryslig's bestiary.

The new content in the Guide consists entirely of individual monster testomonials.

Submissions to the Guide can be made by anyone at any time, in a drop-off box at the Insert Coin arcade. The form below can be used as a template for any monsters looking for inspiration or structure for their entries. Nanami copies out the entries longhand, and stores the information in several locations, so that the information is never lost.

A copy of the current manuscript may be requested for casual perusal at any time.

As of now, the Expanded Guide has not yet been officially published on the peninsula.

[This submission is completely anonymous, but Chiaki can probably see how the handwriting matches a submission for 'faerie' as well and connect the dots.]

What do you like about being this monster?

The sense of invulnerability. You aren't restrained by the need for typical food or sleep. Pain is debatable unless it hits you in the right place.

What do you dislike about being this monster?

The sense of taste and touch are thrown right out the window, and replaced with generic things like hot or cold, heavy or light. Minimal distinction. Unable to taste anything. Sensors are a bad replacement for actual nerves.

What is something unique to you about being this monster?

Lost all my skin, and I do mean all. Anything left was basically foam, metal, rubber, and wiring with a bit of glass thrown in. The torso was a horrible exposed mess as well. Had to get an actual engineer to look it over at one point.

What types of creatures or beings influenced your monster form?

Very similar construction to drones I had previously worked with, with some of the same markings painted on the outer shell. The holographic interface that replaced my face was... similar to interfaces I'd seen in the past. The technology was recognizable to me, albeit in a format that was very cobbled together.

What is it like to feed as this monster?

Never got that far. Got up to the electrocution bit, but that was more of a tool I could use at the time. No feeding ensued.

What are some notable physical features you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?

A projection of a face, but it was very rough. When the interface shell cracked, I couldn't emote at all anymore. Speaker in the chest with horrible reverb and static. Hated the leg configuration. It was more animal-based than humanoid.

What are some notable mental changes you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?

Unsure if it was the situation I was in at the time or mental changes, but things felt less... malleable. Emotionally it was all or nothing. It also was much easier agreeing to things, even if I had reservations.

Would you become this monster again?

Maybe, to see if I'd end up with a similar shape the second time around. Does experience shape what we become, or do we only ever get one shot at being something and that lingers? Have to wonder what a repeat gig looks like.

Would you become this monster for good?

No. The trade-offs aren't worth it.
