Ryslig's Expanded Monster Guide
Nov. 6th, 2022 01:17 amThe Expanded Guide is edited by Chiaki Nanami.
The Expanded Guide begins with a condensed & re-edited version of Spengler's Guide, written several years prior. This contains broad knowledge of the 23 monster types at the time, and largely features the information covered in Ryslig's bestiary.
The new content in the Guide consists entirely of individual monster testomonials.
Submissions to the Guide can be made by anyone at any time, in a drop-off box at the Insert Coin arcade. The form below can be used as a template for any monsters looking for inspiration or structure for their entries. Nanami copies out the entries longhand, and stores the information in several locations, so that the information is never lost.
A copy of the current manuscript may be requested for casual perusal at any time.
As of now, the Expanded Guide has not yet been officially published on the peninsula.

Date: 2023-04-11 10:02 pm (UTC)Being a shadow and creeping under doors was fun. I liked the ability to shape shift too. I didn't have to worry about a lot of things while I was a shade. I was just kind of me, but less physical?
What do you dislike about being this monster?
Being unable to go out in direct sunlight sucked. I missed being able to eat solid real food during the weird mid-month disaster that caused everyone to become a shade.
What is something unique to you about being this monster?
I guess the shape shifting stuff sort of? I didn't have to think as physically as I do when I'm a pooka.
When I'm a pooka, I always needed to really just think three dimensionally about what I wanted to be. I always try to do the math in my head about how things should feel and function.
It helps me to fill in the gaps if I think of what I'm shapeshifting as in very specific three dimensional terms. Like I can feel them. If I read about it before hand, that also usually helps. Its why I tend to default back to my human shape when I do shapeshift, since I instinctually know how that feels without needing to really think about it.
As a Shade I just kind of thought of a flat image and it worked just fine. Kind of like a cut out image of what I wanted to be instead. If I wanted to shapeshift into someone, I'd picture being their shadow and that would work for me.
What types of creatures or beings influenced your monster form?
I don't think so. Though I kept like mentally flickering back to my pooka shape when I wasn't focused.
What is it like to feed as this monster?
I didn't have the chance to feed, so I can't answer.
What are some notable physical features you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?
I had like really huge white eyes that took up most of my face and no other defining features. It was apparently kind of unnerving. I thought they looked pretty cool.
What are some notable mental changes you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?
I felt more mischievous and prone to getting in trouble. I wanted to make other people uncomfortable, and then laugh about it. It was a bit weird honestly?
Would you become this monster again?
Maybe.
Would you become this monster for good?
I don't think so.
