Ryslig's Expanded Monster Guide
Nov. 6th, 2022 01:17 amThe Expanded Guide is edited by Chiaki Nanami.
The Expanded Guide begins with a condensed & re-edited version of Spengler's Guide, written several years prior. This contains broad knowledge of the 23 monster types at the time, and largely features the information covered in Ryslig's bestiary.
The new content in the Guide consists entirely of individual monster testomonials.
Submissions to the Guide can be made by anyone at any time, in a drop-off box at the Insert Coin arcade. The form below can be used as a template for any monsters looking for inspiration or structure for their entries. Nanami copies out the entries longhand, and stores the information in several locations, so that the information is never lost.
A copy of the current manuscript may be requested for casual perusal at any time.
As of now, the Expanded Guide has not yet been officially published on the peninsula.

Date: 2023-04-13 07:40 am (UTC)Merpeople as a rule are actually quite beautiful at a glance. They betray this by the fact they've always got to be damp, and they'll forever smell of fish, but if you want a monster that wows others at a glance, I can think of few better. The ability to adapt easily to water is another boon, and it's actually rather pleasant to swim with company. I would never swim alone, however, because somehow rocks become less exciting when left to a single person's inspection. Maybe I haven't got much of an imagination, I don't know.
Singing with a group is also very enjoyable.
What do you dislike about being this monster?
The fact we have to be wet constantly. It sounds easy, but I prefer staying on dry land. Showering also becomes impossible due to the amount of water being enough to trigger the deep water change. And even without my legs melding into a single fish tail, having a smaller but still considerably large tail erupting from my spine even when my body was dry had to be the most damning thing against the monster type as a whole.
You try sleeping or sitting with a part of your spine that is forever perpendicular to the rest of you and you'll see why it's simply unforgivable as a feature.
What is something unique to you about being this monster?
Haven't a clue. I feel like perhaps octo-mers are common, and I distinctly was not one of those, but what I was besides "fish" remains a mystery to me.
What types of creatures or beings influenced your monster form?
See above.
What is it like to feed as this monster?
Almost like a dream. I can't really recall. I'd rather not.
What are some notable physical features you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?
Probably some sort of extra muscle that lets me be faster than other mers, but that's likely something attributed to my build as well. Nothing to get excited about.
What are some notable mental changes you have as this monster, and what do you like or dislike about them?
I didn't have any.
Would you become this monster again?
Yes, but only by necessity.
Would you become this monster for good?
No.
